Pedal Polarity and SYn

I would like to suggest / request that the SYn function be an optional setting that can be turned off or disabled.
I am using the Nome II as master clock with two pedals (tap and start/stop) to control a drum machine and some synth sequences that are playing along with a live band. Nome II allows me to tap along with the music so the synth and drum machine stuff stays in time, syncing machines to the live music rather than the musicians having to play in time with the synth, which is how it always has been. The Nome II is AWESOME in this regard.
With Firmware 5.3, the start / stop button and pedal have a re-sync/rewind (SYn) function that triggers after the pedal is held down for 0.3 seconds. Because the pedal is waiting 0.3 seconds for a possible SYn, MIDI Start is only sent when you lift your foot off the pedal, not when you press the pedal down. I know this sounds a little precious but when you're tapping tempo down on one pedal, the brain wants to tap down on the other (start) pedal to start the sequencer(s). Without knowing what would be involved it seems like a pretty small ask for a pretty huge advantage. Please make this adjustment! I had to revert back to Firmware 3.2 with the help of Simon (thank you!!!) but I'm missing out on some newer features. Anyway please consider.

Thanks for posting here! We'll definitely consider
This is simple and easy to implement. The problem is more that this will be
yet-another-setting packed into such a small device. Too many options and settings confuse new users.
Another option would be to remove the resync option for one pedal (for example only pedal 1 or only pedal 2), so that by choosing which pedal you use you can decide if you want the resync function (and its problematic polarity) or not.

Thank you Simon!
Your customer service is excellent and the Nome II is a great product. I think a lot of players will want to use the footswitch for playing with a band, and I think a lot of users will want to start and stop their machines and also use your magic formula to tap (and ALIGN!!!) the tempo.
This is why I'm recommending making the start stop work without e-sync/rewind being active. Tapping down is most natural so it's counter intuitive to release the footswitch to start clock when you've been tapping down to tap tempo. I think a lot of players would agree with me. That said, you got me onto an earlier firmware and solved my problem for now, so thanks again!!!

Thanks for the nice words
Would you be happy with this solution?

There's only one way to have tap and start/stop as a setup because pedal2 doesn't have tap tempo as an option. So yes, your suggestion works in this setup if it's possible to remove the resync option only for pedal 2.
Thank you!

Then it is settled!
That's an easy change which will be part of the next firmware: when setting pedal 2 as a single play pedal it will act on press and not have the resync option. We might also add the option for pedal 2 to tap tempo (so that one can have pedal1=
play-with-resync and pedal2=
tap).
Note that there is no ETA for the next firmware for now.

Regarding the complicating the menu, there is seemingly elegant solution to this issue in
Kodi media player, where as a part of settings we choose the level of menu settings (beginner, advanced, expert) which limits the amount of options being shown. Could this work for Nome as well? The current advanced menu is nearly equivalent solution, so there could be "advanced 2" (just a placeholder name) added for additional settings. Then it's of course about making the organization intuitive enough.
The complication of the menu itself is only part of the issue in my opinion, the other part of the issue is the mental "decoding" of the "symbols" that show up on that the 3-digit 7-segment display. @Simon - have you already discussed / considered / tried using scrolling text in the menus? Could it work technically?
I imagine it working like this - current abbreviations are kept as they are, we scroll to some menu item - i.e. "Vo.2"and if we take no action for 3 seconds, the text " Volume 2 " would scroll across the display left to right, one step per 500ms or something around that. Then "Vo.2" would show up again for 3-5 seconds before next text scroll-through.
EDIT: Or don't do any auto-scroll, or possibly not even the scrolling itself, instead use TAP for optional extension of the display text. I.e. there is nothing to extend for "OFF", so TASP does nothing here, but for "PrE", holding TAP could cycle between showing "PrE" and "SEt".
Reading the manual and learning the settings is always going to be necessary though.

Thank you Radek for the suggestions! That's a great idea, and we will consider it

Since the next firmware has no ETA and this is such a quick change, I implemented it already in FW 5.4-beta, so that you do not need to stay on the old 3.2 firmware. See the Nome Manual (section 8.3) for instructions how to load a beta firmware.
It's a beta firmware, very quickly tested, but the changes are very minimal and the chance of unknown bug almost zero

Thank you so much Simon!
I have upgraded to 5.4 but a curious thing happened. Now when I tap tempo on pedal1, the NomeII screen counts down from 10 to 1 with every tap regardless of how fast or slow I tap. Setup is pedal1 tap, pedal2 start/stop. By the way the start/stop is working perfectly!

I think your settings got messed up because of the downgrade and upgrade.
You can change them manually one by one (I think your "Cnt" setting - count-off - is not "OFF"), or you can use the "Factory Reset" button on the Config Tool from

Hi Simon;
I turned off Count and tested it but there was a slight delay in starting, only on the first shot so I restored factory settings and the device was reset to factory, with 5.4 beta still intact! Everything is working perfectly now. THANK YOU again for including my request in the beta update. I'll be watching for the next full firmware rollout. Simon, what can I say? There are no words. Thank you so much again!
